About Forest Jewelers and
Mitch Forest:
Mitch
Forest has been in the jewelry industry since 1969. For the first 5
years he was the manager of a small but very successful "mom and pop"
store in Whitestone Queens, N.Y. While there Mitch learned watch
repair from the owner and had apprenticed himself to a silversmith
from Germany and to a goldsmith/jeweler from Argentina. Both of these
gentlemen taught Mitch the skills they learned the old fashioned way
by being in the classic type of apprentice systems in their native
countries. Going to the Gemological Institute of America in the early
70's, Mitch learned about the technical laboratory skills to
differentiate gems. Those skills were used on his frequent field trips
around the country and to Brazil where he bought and shipped into the
country `1000 kilos of rock and gem material.
In 1977 Mitch and Saul, who taught him his gold/platinum skills
partnered up and opened a shop on Fifth Ave in New York. Saul had been
working for several top designers and together he and Mitch continued
design and manufacture. Pieces they produced or worked on for these
designers won many awards over the years and were sold at the finest
salons and stores.
In 1982 an opportunity led Mitch to open a store in Princeton, New
Jersey. Since opening, the store has grown fantastically. Forest
Jewelers stands apart from the other fine jewelry stores in that it is
owned by an actual hands-on jeweler, who has a huge knowledge of
design, materials and a plethora of contacts within the industry who
supply him with items not usually seen by your typical stores. These
supply contacts make items available to Mitch because of their
long-term relationships.
Forest Jewelers continues to be a unique store with a unique
outlook. Fabulous gemstones set into well-executed designs, whether
made onsite or handpicked by Mitch and his staff, have to satisfy the
eyes and the hand of the jeweler.
